Marcy Smorey-Giger, Esquire
Marcy enjoys her law practice in Pittsburgh where she represents numerous small business clients providing legal guidance for all business operations.
Marcy is active adjunct faculty at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and Duquesne University School of Law where she teaches Corporate and Business Law, as well as, courses regarding the unique role of in-house counsel within modern corporations.
Currently, Marcy is an Advisor for LegalSifter Inc. providing subject-matter expertise for the development of software which utilizes artificial intelligence, including natural language processing and machine learning, to help companies read legal documents faster and to organize data more efficiently.
Marcy has worked within in-house corporate law departments for the vast majority of her legal career with her most recent executive position as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for DynaVox Inc. a leader in developing and marketing proprietary software, devices and content with speech generating technologies and special education software to assist people in overcoming their speech, language or learning disabilities.
Licensures
Marcy is admitted to Bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court of Pennsylvania.
Education
Marcy received her Juris Doctor from Duquesne University School of Law where she was active with Appellate Moot Court, Order of the Barristers, Honor Board Member and Competitor, and Corporate Law Society Chair. Marcy was also Assistant Editor-in-Chief and Contributing Author for JURIS, The Duquesne University School of Law News Magazine.
Prior to law school, Marcy also received her Paralegal Certificate from Duquesne University’s Paralegal Institute.
Marcy received her Master of Science from Duquesne University, School of Natural and Environmental Science and her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Westminster College.

Teaching
Marcy believes that sharing her experiences as a business lawyer is meaningful which has led her to teaching law. Marcy is an Alumna of Duquesne University School of Law and honored to be an Adjunct Law Professor at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law as well. Marcy also teaches as Adjunct Faculty at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. In addition, she received her Master of Science degree from the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Science at Duquesne University and she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Westminster College.
As a Law Professor, Marcy provides law students experiential learning via simulation courses. Marcy teaches students about corporate and business law and about how to focus on the company’s overall success as a lawyer for the benefit of large corporations or small companies. In the Corporate In-House Counsel Practice class, students learn about the unique role of practicing law as in-house counsel.
Teaching is a significant connection to Marcy‘s prior roles in Law Departments with oversight of all of the business’s legal and compliance matters as well as corporate governance. With more than 30 years of legal and business experience, Marcy‘s expertise as a business partner encompasses corporate, operations, governance, compliance, securities, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property and litigation management. Marcy’s most recent in-house position was as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for DynaVox Inc. which was once the leading U.S. provider of speech generating devices and symbol-adapted special education software used to assist individuals in overcoming their speech, language and learning challenges. Prior to joining DynaVox, Marcy was the Corporate Counsel and Secretary of WESCO International, Inc., doing business as WESCO Distribution, a Fortune 500 and NYSE-listed company.
